Why Brooklyn Nine-Nine Is The Funniest Cop Show Today

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is without a doubt the funniest cop show we have today. To be fair, there really aren’t a lot of those running at the moment. Even historically, there had been very few critically acclaimed funny cop sitcoms. There was the Andy Griffith Show, Barney Miller, Police Squad!, and Reno 911. However, there are certain aspects of Brooklyn Nine-Nine separating it from the rest.

The show is run by a diverse ensemble. There’s the genius and childish Jake Peralta, the buff and likeable Terry Jeffords, the compulsive Amy Santiago, the earnestly loyal Charles Boyle, the tough Rosa Diaz, the quirky Gina Linetti, the charming Captain Raymond Holt, and the bungling duo of Scully and Hitchcock.

What makes this cast truly funny are their flaws. Jake and his poor financial decisions, Charles’ obscurity, Amy’s lack of emotions, Captain Holt’s inability to respond to social norms, Amy’s neediness for approval, Terry’s image problem, Gina’s ineptitude, and the overall uselessness of Scully and Hitchcock.

In the cast, only Andy Sandberg and Terry Crews are known for their comedy but the chemistry among the characters is undeniable. This has led to countless hilarious scenes, running jokes, traditions, and plot twists that pin the audiences to the floor while laughing.

While the show veers away from dark crimes, the injustices the team fights are usually lighthearted felonies that bring out the characters’ quirks. Besides their tasks, it’s their in-office interactions that make each episode special and worth watching.

Police Comedy: Brooklyn Nine-Nine And Its Tv Magic

Cop shows continue to rule television and are unarguably the most watched series of all time. While there are the more serious ones like “Law & Order” and “CSI,” there are those that are made to make people laugh such as “NCIS” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The latter, however, is

funnier than the former.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” or “Nine-Nine” has been running since the last quarter of 2013 and is still going strong, now in its 5th season. The show has won awards from the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and the Television Academy. What sets it apart from most cop comedy shows is the chemistry the actors have with each other. Each episode, fans are left on the edge of their seats as “Nine-Nine” is known to be a show that loves to keep people guessing. Bonds formed between the characters are hilarious, which are not all romantic relationships, take for example Jake Peralta and Charles Boyle’s bromance.

There’s hardly an episode where you won’t find yourself laughing hysterically because of what Jake did to Terry (sergeant) or to Chief Holt. Gina Linetti is as mysterious as Rosa Diaz, yet the two provide equally funny stories of why they have such behavior. One can say that Amy Santiago is the least interesting among the rest, yet that entirely untrue. The way all the characters grow individually and with the group, keep the show alive and its audiences loving it even more. Scully and Hitchcock aren’t exactly anchors of the show, but they do provide the best laughs in the most unexpected moments.

The writers of the show must know how the audience feel as they continue to produce the best and funniest cop comedy show there is.
